Deus Ex: Revolution Delayed

This is a terrible thing to wake up to.

It seems that, due to the less-than-stellar year Square-Enix has been having, they’re basically burning down what’s left of their fiscal projections for 2010 and stacking all their eggs into 2011, as a press release reported today (via kotaku) states:

With weak sales performance of console game titles that have been newly released during the current fiscal year as well as harsh market feedback regarding a key title, the Group recognizes the reinforcement of development capability in our Digital Entertainment segment as our most critical managerial issue.

We therefore have decided to spend additional time to further polish our upcoming game, DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION, resulting in a shift in release timing from our prior plan of the current fiscal year to next fiscal year.

Now, just so everyone’s up to speed, when they’re talking about “harsh market feedback regarding a key title”, they’re just talking about Final Fantasy XIV, which apparently people didn’t take a shining to.

I’m no business-guy, in fact I think it’s quite safe to say I’m the opposite of a business guy, but I never really understand the need producers have to shift and delay games around based upon differing fiscal years. I mean, Deus Ex: Revolution has got some pretty solid buzz going behind it, and, baring some sort of situation where the game comes out and reviews disastrously, it’s likely going to sell like gangbusters, regardless of the date released

Get off your drunken, augmented ass and release your game, Jensen!

I know this likely has something to do with fiscal year projections and all that, and Square-Enix wants to post some monster numbers next year after the beating they likely took in 2010, but, hell, if I were Square-Enix I feel like I’d want to put something good out quick to show stockholders that not every game they have in their bag is Final fucking Fantasy XIV.

I guess we can expect Deus Ex: Revolution in Q2 or Q3 of next year. At least it now has time to further polish up.
