Square-Enix is making a sequel to Final Fantasy XIII

Now, of course, the first and most important thing that comes to mind is why god why.

For the uninitiated, Final Fantasy XIII came out roughly spring of last year, and when it was released the public’s anticipation was swiftly replaced with rage. White-hot nerd rage. And I’ll go so far as to say that when I finished XIII I was really finished with it.

All the charm of Final Fantasy’s of old - the expansive world, the sense of exploration, the deep-seated mania involved in grinding your characters to as high a level as possible while collecting every last hidden bauble hidden throughout, all gone. Replaced with what could faithfully be called a corridor-RPG filled to the brim with annoying, twee-as-fuck preteen protagonists with inexcusably terrible voice actors.

Isn’t armor without pants kind of goddamn redundant?

But hey it reportedly sold around 6 million copies worldwide, so the news earlier this week at a Square-Enix Press Conference that the company was already well into development of a sequel should come as little surprise.

Oh, and they’re calling it Final Fantasy XIII-2. Roll that around on your tongue for a minute, and tell me how it feels. I mean the least they could’ve done was call it Final Fantasy XIII Electric Boogaloo or something.

They also released something of a teaser trailer alongside the announcement, which can be seen here.
