I’m Super Excited About Bulletstorm…

…but only because its advertising is crazy.

Bulletstorm, the latest gun-happy shooter from People Can Fly (the guys who brought you such classics as Painkiller) and Epic Games has been getting a lot of media attention as of late. In part due to the recent release of their demo, which despite its truncated length seems to be going over fairly well with people. But, personally, I think it’s because their advertising campaign has been pants-on-head retarded. And I mean that in the best way possible.

The game itself seems to be really little more than a return to the crazy ol’ days of first-person shooters, when you were shooting hell demons and pig cops and spouting one-liners just because. I mean it even has points! You’re not killing mutants or zombies to advance the storyline, or to meet some objective, but rather because blowing that dude’s head off nets you 250 sweet, sweet points.

And moreover it seems like the fine gentlemen over at Epic and People Can Fly are well aware that their game flies in the face of the current genre tropes, and are doing their best to fan the flames of hatred. How so, you ask? By doing their damndest to make fun of their competitors in every ad they bring out.

Case in point? Their send-up of the Halo 3 “Believe” diorama commercial, Chopin’s “Raindrops” and all. Of course, their rendition is somewhat less…heartfelt than Halo’s version. See it below.

But an even more aggressive shot across the bow, so to speak, from the Bulletstormer’s came this week with their release of Duty Calls, a parody “demo” of another first-person shooter franchise whose name sounds quite familiar. I won’t go into too much detail, but let’s just say they pull no punches. It can also be seen below.

Now personally I’m not actually exceptionally psyched for the release of Bulletstorm itself. Sure if it comes out to trumpeting fanfare and falling confetti I’ll be duty-bound to check it out, but I guess I like the current, story-focused setting fps games have found themselves in lately, and have never felt the pull that earning points can give. Regardless of my opinion though, I am sitting on edge in hopes that Epic and People Can Fly bring out another piece of advertising gold before the game’s release. That’s what’s got me excited!

Bulletstorm is set to release on the 25th of this month.
